Gran Zebrù - Normal Route
Two days on the Gran Zebrù normal route: a night at Rifugio Pizzini, a dawn start, the Collo di Bottiglia couloir and the final ridge to the summit cross.
Overview.
Gran Zebrù is a beautiful mountain to look at, and even better to climb. We leave the hut early, while the snow is still firm and everything around is quiet. The route goes up with crampons and ice axe, first on the glacier and then through the Collo di Bottiglia couloir, up to the final ridge, where the view widens with every step. On the summit, next to the big cross, you are surrounded by mountains in every direction. A proper mountaineering day, well worth the early start.

How it unfolds.
We meet in Santa Caterina and transfer to the Forni car park (~2,100 m). From there we head up to Rifugio Pizzini (2,700 m), where we spend the night.
The next morning, we start early across rocky moraines toward the Gran Zebrù glacier. Crampons and ice axe on, we follow snowy slopes that lead us into the ‘Collo di Bottiglia’, a steep couloir at 50° max, which we climb roped in a short rope team. At the top, we gain the southeast ridge: exposed and snow-covered. Final push to the summit cross at 3,858 m. Descent via the same route.
