Ski Mountaineering - Adamello Tour
Three days of ski mountaineering between Lombardy and Trentino, with nights in a mountain hut and the sites of the Great War.
Overview.
Three days of ski mountaineering in the Adamello group, straddling Lombardy and Trentino.
The altitude is lower than in the great Western Alps, but the terrain has stayed wild: the infrastructure that makes the highest peaks easier to reach elsewhere never arrived here, and you ski through places of rare beauty.
It is also a journey into the history of the Great War (1915-1918). We climb to the Giovanni Paolo II summit (Cresta Croce), where the 149/G "Ippopotamo" howitzer still stands, the only artillery piece left in position on the Adamello front.

How it unfolds.
We meet at Passo del Tonale by the ski lifts for a briefing and equipment check. We take the lifts up to Passo Presena, then ski down toward Rifugio Mandrone for a break. From there we climb to Cresta Croce and the nearby Cannone dell'Adamello, a relic of the Great War. Overnight at Rifugio Ai Caduti dell'Adamello, a hut full of history.
After breakfast we head for Corno Bianco or other peaks of the Adamello range, depending on conditions. The views open up over the whole massif. Back to Rifugio Ai Caduti dell'Adamello for the night.
Last day: we climb Monte Adamello (3,539 m), the highest peak in the area, with a view stretching across the Lombardy and Trentino Alps. From the summit we descend to Passo Venezia and return to Ponte di Legno.
